Love God, Love People
Jail MinistryYou might be wondering why we stand out of the Denton County Jail, week after week, handing out free refreshments and snacks? In the summer of 2007 we began to notice this long line of people standing in the heat to visit loved ones and friends at the Denton County Jail. We came up with this idea of offering cold water and lemonade and with the permission of the sheriff we began this ministry to the Denton County Jail visitors that summer. When it turned cold that next winter, we kept coming with coffee and hot chocolate. We come every Tuesday from 6pm to 8pm.
Many there probably never imagined themselves standing in this line and we know it must be difficult. We hope this expression of Christ-like love makes it easier for those in line to visit loved ones and friends, knowing people care about them and their family. There is a Biblical reason we do what we do as well! The Bible tells us to love people (Matthew 22:37-39) and visit those who are sick and in prison (Matthew 25:34-40) This is our expression of Bible teaching.
